Fri 12/2/11 (Two weeks to go!)

Today (Friday that is) makes 2 weeks left for my time here in St. Lucia- a fun coincidence is that I had to drive by the airport where I'll be flying out of this morning on my way to the National Archives where I've been doing some research into the banana industry and the quarters that my work is in.

Vigie airport where I'll be leaving from
St. Lucia National Archives

Really cool old typewriter sitting outside the archives (St. Lucia doesn't have any museums)
Huge keyboard, clearly it was special, not your standard typewriter...
More typewriter...

Settling down for the morning's work- colonial reports and ag research station reports from 1883 to 1938. They were a lot more interesting than I expected them to be!
Another cool bug (dead)

After-school fun!  Some little boys playing cricket in front of Castries produce market. Cricket is the most popular sport here, and the West Indies (St. Lucia's "national" team) just won a big series against India, so the boys are inspired.
This is what I like to call "ticket bombing" when a pick-up truck of police pulls up and the cops jump out and start to give all vehicles parked around them tickets. Then its a race between the cops and the drivers of the parked vehicles in illegal spaces (but everyone parks there). Once the cops pull up the gets out quick and drivers come running from shops and around corners
